The bond issue is the Stormwater Board's first step in addressing many issues highlighted by the stormwater master plan in 2010. In the master plan a sum of 23 million dollars was estimated to make repairs and installations of infrastructure.
Currently the six million dollar bond will address ten of the top tier projects. Projects listed in the master plan were selected by a scoring system which highlighted a number of weighted issues such as first floor flooding, second floor flooding, basement flooding, street flooding, as well as other aspects. The regional improvements will aid all those who are little impacted to those who are heavily impacted downstream of the improvements. These projects are broken down into two sub categories:
- Storage basin
- Localized drainage improvements.
One previous project in the master plan was a basin designed to aid the Oakwood/Castlewood subdivision through detention of stormwater.
